This year we travelled to a (not so) sunny San Francisco on Epic Games’ invitation to show Oceanhorn 2 at the Unreal Engine venue at GDC 18. What an amazing opportunity! We prepared a great demo to show at the expo, so if you’re an Oceanhorn fan, make sure to drop by and play the latest build of our game. You will also meet us, the developers, and have a chat!
Look at that! Our latest demo takes you to the Great Jungle of Pirta, where the Owru nation is divided by an old grudge. Will our heroes be able to unite the owrus and get them to join the fight against Mesmeroth’s Dark Army.
Yes, I said heroes! One of the defining features of Oceanhorn 2 is the party members, who will be on your side through the adventure. Trin, the granddaughter of Arcadia’s leader Archimedes and Gen, a mysterious robot wielding an old samurai weapon eki.
The game is still far from being finished, but it will be worth the wait!

Oceanhorn 2: Development update
All the roads lead to Capital |
It has been too long since we gave you guys an update on the development of Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm. Well, all five of us have been focusing on the game, and when you're really concentrated on your work, the time flies!
Grand Core: The city sized machine in the heart of Capital. |
It feels like it was only yesterday when we released our first gameplay video of Oceanhorn 2 and even let people play the game at Nordic Game, but the truth is it has been months! The reception of the gameplay video was awesome. We could not get enough of all the impressions from youtube and forums. The excitement of our audience really inspired us to work harder. After we came back to our studio, we were determined to move to the next step with the production!
Capital's seedier backside |
So, what have we been up to? We have been building an adventure! More gameplay, more story, more levels, more worlds. A city. Capital is one of the central locations of Oceanhorn 2's story and it offers tons of open-ended exploration for curious adventurers. In the heart of the city is the gigantic machine Grand Core.
Meeting with friends at Master Mayfair's penthouse study |
We hope to bring you more updates in the future, along with some video teasers to give you a real good look at the game! Productions like this require a lot of time and effort, but the outcome will be a cool video game so it is all worth the trouble! When you are making your dream project, you don't count the hours.
Enjoy these iPhone screenshots folks!

Oceanhorn on Nintendo Switch - OUT NOW!
Today, Oceanhorn is being released on Nintendo Switch!
Nintendo Switch is an amazing video game console and when I first got my hands on it, I immediately fell in love with it. The ability to go from portable mode to TV works flawlessly, and it all comes down to the genius design of the console. Nintendo has nailed the screen size of the device, to diminish the disparity between the modes – making sure the same game works perfectly on both modes. We investigated a lot of this when we ported a portable game (iPhone, iPad) to the big screen for PC and consoles and it is not as simple as it sounds. People have different expectations when it comes to big screen titles.
Oceanhorn on Switch is probably the most definite version of the game. The game is based on the remastered PC version of Oceanhorn and you can play it in both portable and TV mode. The game runs beautifully 60 fps / 1080p in docked mode and equally impressively 60 fps / 720p in portable mode. The game includes an amazing soundtrack from the industry legends Nobuo Uematsu and Kenji Ito, and our own brilliant composer Kalle Ylitalo. Voice talents range from Ray Chase (Final Fantasy XV, Noctis) and Kevan Brighting (Stanley Parable, Narrator) to Fryda Wolf (Mass Effect Andromeda, Sara Ryder). We could not be more excited to give Nintendo fans a chance to enter the world of Oceanhorn.
Oceanhorn on Switch is probably the most definite version of the game.
From the personal perspective of a small indie developer, this moment feels historical. Like many others, I grew up with Nintendo consoles and games, and this Kyoto-based company will always have a special place in my heart. Nintendo has played a crucial part in the history of video games ever since the dawn of home consoles, and they keep setting the standard for video game entertainment from one decade to another.
From this love and admiration, comes my driving force to cherish the experiences I had in my childhood. I got into making video games, because of the ever-inspiring experiences such as Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Zelda.
Oceanhorn is a game for the Nintendo fans, because it was made by a bunch of them. We are well aware that it is a smaller title and a different title from many of the console experiences that inspired it – but I truly believe that we were able to capture some of the essence of the classics in this game, as well as establish Oceanhorn as a franchise of its own.
Have a great adventure, Switch owners!

Oceanhorn 2: First gameplay video and screenshots!
Since many of you can't make it to the Nordic Game conference in Malmö, Sweden – we decided to capture a video of our demo! The video is unedited footage that is captured on an actual iPhone 7 Plus.
If you happen to be in Nordic Game, come visit us at Epic's booth and try out the demo yourself! I will keep it short and let the video and screenshots speak for themselves.

You spoke, we listened! Oceanhorn coming to PS Vita on May 17th
In September 2016 we released Oceanhorn on PS4 and Xbox One, our very first console game. Since its release we received so much love and overwhelmingly positive feedback from console gaming community. Thank you so much!
Oceanhorn is our love letter to action adventures from past generations and combines the action and puzzle elements from Zelda games with the emotional journey of the Final Fantasy and Mana series.

Wow these colours pop on the PS Vita screen! |
Soon after launch we received many requests from players who’d love a portable PS Vita version of this game so we decided to do a Twitter Poll about it. What followed was an incredible Tsunami of likes and retweets – it blew us away! We are very happy to announce that Oceanhorn – Monster of Uncharted Seas will arrive on PS Vita on May 17th, 2017.
Taking full advantage of PS Vita
We’ve been working hard to deliver the same gameplay experience that you’ve loved on consoles, so we put many hours into optimizing our code. We’re very happy to confirm that the whole game runs beautifully on the PS Vita delivering smooth performance all the way through the entire game.
It’s just amazing to see the game coming to life on the colourful PS Vita display. Everything looks so expressive, adding an extra punch to the huge variety of islands like rainy forests or scorching desserts. Explore all of them on the go!

The game will take you from the deepest dungeons to the highest skies |
Beautiful Game for a beautiful Handheld System
We didn’t stop with just porting it, we also added features to take advantage of the Vita in unique ways. You decide if you want to use them or play in a traditional way. First of all we enabled Touch Screen for casting spells and to navigate the menus. This is a very comfortable and direct way of choosing targets or menu options. Furthermore we enabled PlayStation TV so you can play on the big screen.
Oh and in case you’re wondering: The game features its own set of trophies, so all trophy hunters rejoice, another Platinum Trophy to hunt for. Altogether we aimed to deliver a must have for every PS Vita library and it’s our way of saying thanks for your support. Cheers!

Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas is out now on PS4 and Xbox One. Do not miss this opportunity to play the entry to the Oceanhorn franchise on your favorite console! Get your copy from Playstation Store and Microsoft Marketplace ($14.99 / €14.95).
We hope that these new platforms will bring Oceanhorn many new fans. Initial responses to the game have been very positive all around! People appreciate the smooth gameplay and nice visuals, but also the bug free port (FDG Entertainment, Engine Software) and Oceanhorn's great soundtrack (Nobuo Uematsu, Kenji Ito, Kalle Ylitalo).
On top of that, I want to present you the fantastic voice cast of Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas!
Starring...
Ray Chase as Father. Ray has worked with us since Death Rally (2011) and his latest performance can be heard later this year in Final Fantasy 15 as the main character Noctis!
Co-starring...
Kevan Brighting as Hermit. Kevan is a remarkable and colorful voice actor of Stanley Parable fame.
And last but definitely not least...
Fryda Wolf as Princess Fin and Neeti. Fryda has done a lot of video game voice overs from Fallout 4 to Street Fighter V and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
As the console versions are now out, the development team wants to thank everyone involved in Oceanhorn's story. Thank you for taking this amazing journey with us. We're looking forward to working with you all again in the future!

Oceanhorn 2 in development!
I can’t believe it has been five years since we announced the development of the first Oceanhorn game on this blog. Now the time has come for another major announcement.
We are proud and excited to reveal the next installment of the Oceanhorn franchise, Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm. Here’s how it looks!
![]() |
Oceanhorn 2 has been in development for little over a year |
The boy has grown up? That’s right! But he is a different boy altogether! Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm is set in another time period on the Oceanhorn timeline. The game has a new Hero, a boy who has been trained to become a Knight of Arcadia.
Oceanhorn 2 will be built upon the same elements that were the heart and soul of the first Oceanhorn game: exploring a colorful world, a deep backstory with secrets and twists, amazing music, and most importantly – classic Action RPG gameplay with items, puzzles, battles, and badass bosses!
![]() |
The Caster is a magical weapon that only Knights carry |
The game is played from a third person camera angle that will take players right into the heat of action and allows them to explore even the smallest details of Arcadia. Our battle system consists of sword fighting, utilizing powerful spells and finding creative ways to use various items that Hero discovers on his travels.
One of the key items in the game is the Caster, a gun that shoots magical projectiles! It will have many uses on the player’s adventure, from puzzle solving to luring enemies and casting directed spells.
![]() |
The game will feature a traversable world map |
Oceanhorn 2 will also feature a traversable and vast world map that consists of fields, forests, mountains, and water. It works as a hub between levels, dungeons and towns, much like in many of the classic JRPGs.
"For us, Oceanhorn 2 is the fulfillment of a JRPG dream."Oceanhorn 2 is an opportunity to create something new from the strong background that we established with our previous game. In Oceanhorn 2, we want to emphasize the elements that people loved and create something new and brave on that foundation.
The world of Oceanhorn has grown and so has our team. The core team working on Oceanhorn 2 is now a team of five!
Heikki Repo, Creator and Lead Artist
Jukka Viljamaa, Lead Programmer
Antti Viljamaa, Lead Programmer
Kalle Hämäläinen, Graphics Programmer
Miko Kiuru, Game Artist
Also, Kalle Ylitalo will return to compose soundtrack for Oceanhorn 2 and the famed sound designer and foley artist Tapio Liukkonen will be in charge of the audio experience.
For us, Oceanhorn 2 is the fulfillment of a JRPG dream. It is a dream of running down green fields with the warmth of the sun on your face. It is a dream of learning the secrets of ancient ruins despite the danger. It is also a dream of finding yourself looking at beautiful mountains on the horizon and imagining what’s beyond them. It will be an amazing journey ahead of us and we hope that you will join us on that journey!
In the upcoming months, we will have many things to show to you and many secrets to unveil regarding Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm. This is a dream project for us, but even more importantly, we are making this game for you to enjoy and experience. So, please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas on Twitter and Facebook!
And make sure to check out Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas on PS4 and Xbox One this fall!

Oceanhorn comes to PS4 and Xbox One!
Soon, console gamers around the world get to start their adventures in Arcadia as Oceanhorn is coming to PS4 and Xbox One!
The console version is based on the remastered PC version and porting is handled by extremely talented Engine Software (Terraria, Mighty No.9) and FDG Entertainment. The console version of the game actually runs on PC's Ultra settings, targeting Full HD and 60 frames per second. That is a true testament to the involved team's skills!
The game features the outstanding soundtrack from Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu and Seiken Densetsu composer Kenji Ito, without forgetting our own Kalle Ylitalo ofcourse.
If you're more familiar with Oceanhorn's mobile version, here is a citation of the remastered version's features:
Oceanhorn console version will be released this summer on Playstation Store and Xbox Games Store. We will make sure to tell you more closer to the release date!

Oceanhorn's PC version is a completely remastered version of the game, a huge graphical and technical overhaul, that makes the game more suitable for bigger screens and more powerful hardware.
The game has been redesigned for physical controls and it plays great on your gamepad!
All of the game's graphical assets have been tweaked for the powerful platform. We added four times more polygons, sharper textures, normal maps, detail objects and new lighting effects such as dynamic ambient occlusion, soft shadows and realtime reflections to make Oceanhorn look stunning when played in Full HD resolution
We have also read every review and feedback out there to improve the original game all around. We have remastered puzzles and taken care of spots that felt confusing or unfair for the players.
There are some new items in the shop that will hit the nail with people's demands. Second Chance Potion might be expensive, but you will be lucky to have it in a boss fight and Mana Refill Potion will be a priceless possession in Frozen Palace. What could be the function of the Ancient Arcadian Radar, though?

Oceanhorn is ready for Apple TV launch!
![]() | |
Precise controls for Remote and MFI Controller ! |
Apple launching a new device is always exciting time for us and this time we are especially thrilled, since Oceanhorn is about to debut in your living rooms thanks to the amazing hardware of Apple TV!
To ensure your adventure on big screen is a joyful one, we made several improvements to the game. The camera shows more action around the main character. The landscapes are more detailed and the fields, forests and the dungeons are littered with detail objects.
Apple TV Remote proved to be great controller for Oceanhorn as we have always relied on simple, yet efficient controls. You hold the remote like it is supposed to and click the track pad for sword swings and interaction. Oceanhorn also works very well with an MFI Controller!
Oceanhorn for Apple TV is a universal build, so if you have previously purchased Oceanhorn on iOS you can download it free of charge to play it on your TV.
Stay tuned for more Oceanhorn news in the future!

... and the Winner is!
![]() |
1st: Joel won over jury's hearts with his smart book cover! |
Oceanhorn Anniversary Screenshot & Fan Art Competition is now over! The jury has given the scores and we have our Top 10 entries!
The winner is Joel Julian with his fantastic imaginative children's book cover! Congratulations Joel!
In Joel's entry Oceanhorn is represented as a children's book called 'The Uncharted Seas'. The smart idea is executed perfectly. The work is unique, but still honors the source material: the character, the colors and the symbols are spot on! It is delighting to start decrypting the image. The adventure takes place in a bathtub that is based on our Hero's boat and the sail has been transformed into a towel. I can almost imagine him going to bed after the bath, dreaming of the adventures he is going to take when he grows up.
The quality of the competition was very high! The members of the jury went through all the participants, hand picked what they thought were the best of the entries and gave them score according to their personal preferences. Thanks to this complex process we now have very varied Top 10 entries. The competition was very tough at the top. The top 3 had only slim difference in score!
Here are rest of the Top 10 with comments!

![]() |
It's time to start tweeting! |
Oceanhorn 2.5 has just been released, with Ultra Graphics for iPhone 6/+ and iPad Air 2 - just in time for some celebration!
Celebrate the 1st anniversary of Oceanhorn with us and take part in an awesome competition! Brand new iPad Air 2 can be yours, just follow these steps and participate!
◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈ How to Participate ◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈◈
1 ) Take a beautiful SCREENSHOT of our game or do some awesome FAN ART
2 ) Tweet your image with #oceanhorn before 10th of January 2015 to participate
The development team will look for all the #oceanhorn tweets and handpick the best entry. Winner gets a new iPad Air 2!
- You guessed it. It runs Oceanhorn on Ultra Graphics!
Couple of tips for your screenshot hunting! Your screenshots will better stand out, if you take them from places rarely seen in Oceanhorn screenshots. You can also pick up objects and place them around for better compositions. If you climb higher, camera shows more of the landscape. It doesn't have to be all artistic though, if you manage to take a screenshot of a rare event in the game it might work for your benefit! - To take a screenshot on your iOS device, press lock- and home-button simultaneously.
For artists out there, we judges here love colors, so colored artwork will immediately have better impact than quick doodles. All kinds of fan art is appreciated, but why don't you try to capture some of the most memorable moments from Oceanhorn! Screenshots might be easier to take, but fan art has unlimited possibilities to win this competition!
Only one will win the iPad Air 2, but we will feature the best of screenshots and fan art here in our blog with comments from the development team.
Unleash your creativity and impress us!

I see something BIG coming!
Can you spot what is new in this update? |
Carefully now, don't let it get away! We have been developing this update for a while now! It is something that could be considered as a DLC on console games, but as a token of gratitude for you, loyal Oceanhorn players, we will continue our No-IAP policy and release our DLC and content pack free of charge!
This update is 90% done and we will begin testing soon. We will tell you more about it later, but in the meanwhile this screenshot will help you reel in what this update is about! :)
Is it raining in here? It was clear just a minute ago. |
