I can’t believe it has been five years since we announced the development of the first Oceanhorn game on this blog. Now the time has come for another major announcement.
We are proud and excited to reveal the next installment of the Oceanhorn franchise, Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm. Here’s how it looks!
Oceanhorn 2 has been in development for little over a year |
The boy has grown up? That’s right! But he is a different boy altogether! Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm is set in another time period on the Oceanhorn timeline. The game has a new Hero, a boy who has been trained to become a Knight of Arcadia.
Oceanhorn 2 will be built upon the same elements that were the heart and soul of the first Oceanhorn game: exploring a colorful world, a deep backstory with secrets and twists, amazing music, and most importantly – classic Action RPG gameplay with items, puzzles, battles, and badass bosses!
The Caster is a magical weapon that only Knights carry |
The game is played from a third person camera angle that will take players right into the heat of action and allows them to explore even the smallest details of Arcadia. Our battle system consists of sword fighting, utilizing powerful spells and finding creative ways to use various items that Hero discovers on his travels.
One of the key items in the game is the Caster, a gun that shoots magical projectiles! It will have many uses on the player’s adventure, from puzzle solving to luring enemies and casting directed spells.
The game will feature a traversable world map |
Oceanhorn 2 will also feature a traversable and vast world map that consists of fields, forests, mountains, and water. It works as a hub between levels, dungeons and towns, much like in many of the classic JRPGs.
"For us, Oceanhorn 2 is the fulfillment of a JRPG dream."Oceanhorn 2 is an opportunity to create something new from the strong background that we established with our previous game. In Oceanhorn 2, we want to emphasize the elements that people loved and create something new and brave on that foundation.
The world of Oceanhorn has grown and so has our team. The core team working on Oceanhorn 2 is now a team of five!
Heikki Repo, Creator and Lead Artist
Jukka Viljamaa, Lead Programmer
Antti Viljamaa, Lead Programmer
Kalle Hämäläinen, Graphics Programmer
Miko Kiuru, Game Artist
Also, Kalle Ylitalo will return to compose soundtrack for Oceanhorn 2 and the famed sound designer and foley artist Tapio Liukkonen will be in charge of the audio experience.
For us, Oceanhorn 2 is the fulfillment of a JRPG dream. It is a dream of running down green fields with the warmth of the sun on your face. It is a dream of learning the secrets of ancient ruins despite the danger. It is also a dream of finding yourself looking at beautiful mountains on the horizon and imagining what’s beyond them. It will be an amazing journey ahead of us and we hope that you will join us on that journey!
In the upcoming months, we will have many things to show to you and many secrets to unveil regarding Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm. This is a dream project for us, but even more importantly, we are making this game for you to enjoy and experience. So, please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas on Twitter and Facebook!
And make sure to check out Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas on PS4 and Xbox One this fall!
Please please release the soundtrack to oceanhorn :)
ReplyDeleteSo excited! And yes, Xbox One please!!!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing guys, nice job. Keep the great work.
ReplyDeleteLooks leaps and bounds beyond the first game! Hopefully it comes to Xbox at release!
ReplyDeleteDo you think you can find YOUR game style and look and stop steeling others ? First one was a good WindWaker looks, but now Skyward Sword ?! You become more like a chinease compagny who making false games than create real new one. I'm sorry but I pass my turn this time...
ReplyDeleteThe Queen says:
DeleteOh really ,pu leeze
Mike. Please remove yourself from the Internet.
DeleteHis name is mil not mike
DeleteWhile at first it did look like a Zelda knock-off. But as you play its really not. It had its own unique story and in my opinion is a very successfull game. I honestly can't wait until the second one.
DeleteThank you, we need more Zelda like games on PS4. So pls bring it to consoles. ;)
ReplyDeletePlease avoid an FPS cap. I refunded the original on Steam within seconds of me learning I couldn't disable it.
ReplyDeleteTHIS! Totally agree! <------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deleteplatform?
ReplyDeleteMik End: this looks way better than Skyward Sword.
ReplyDeleteIs possible an iOS version For Apple TV or iPad after The ps4 release??
ReplyDeleteMitäs mieltä olitte muuten suomiteksteistä alkuperäisessä Oceanhornissa? Voidaanko odottaa samanlaista kohtelua kakkososaankin? Itseäni miellytti aika hyvin. Kumminkin olen aikeissa pitää tätä silmällä ja ostaa sitten, kun tulee. Tsemppiä!
ReplyDeletePlease, add original game for osx to GOG...
ReplyDeleteFrom the art direction it's very clearly drawing inspiration from the Legend of Zelda series - particularly Skyward Sword and Breath of the wild whilst the first game heavily copied elements from Windwaker. Being inspired by a game is one thing, openly copying it is another - particularly if you are not going to release it on a Nintendo system.
ReplyDeleteThank you ! 100% agree with you !
DeleteIf it was any other game I'd agree with you, but there just aren't enough games like Zelda out there. Don't you dare interfere with this brilliant project.
DeleteShe's just a troll.
DeleteSince the game seems to be at an early stage of completion, could you consider to add a gender choice at the begin of the game?
ReplyDeleteIt's not like it would mess with the Triforce, right? ;)
Very excited about this!! Loved Oceanhorn and looking forward to returning to the OH universe. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is really awesome and I am so excited for this! I have to wonder though, where will the game actually get its name from with Oceanhorn itself gone? Will the Owru and Gilfolk tribes make a return, or possibly even other new tribes? How connected will this game be to the first one?
ReplyDeleteI looks like breath of the wild will it be on android please make an android version
ReplyDeleteThat's splendid news. Still no Wii U version of the first game though. :/
ReplyDeleteIf we came up with any suggestions for the game would you guys ever consider taking them to heart?
ReplyDeleteWe are not a corporation, but an indie company - so we would love to hear what you have on your mind.
DeleteI absolutely loved playing the first Oceanhorn, but along the way there were plenty of things I thought "wouldn't it be cool if..." Of course, I also noted that for being an indie game, it was impressive that so much detail had already been put into it. But now that you games are going all out with even more support behind you, I'd love to see some more features in your next title!
Delete1. Your first collect quest with Bloodstones was very cool. Not only was it fun seeking out all the Bloodstones around the corners of every island, but it also had a very worthwhile reward. However, it would have been nice to know which number of stones we needed to collect in order to be rewarded. And if possible, it'd be cool to get more than one reward along the way. I really hope the TRILOTH spell returns!
2. Speaking of TRILOTH, although a central element behind the power of Mesmeroth and the corruption of Oceanhorn, we never really went into much details about the extent of its power and danger. It'd be cool to see TRILOTH return as an element in the story, somehow or another. (I mean it was used to create the world, eventually you could probably have some crazy guy trying to use it create the world into a better place by destroying this one)
3. If you're going to have anyone like the girl from Tikarel in this game, I'd be nice to see them become a little closer and for their relationship to be a bit for fleshed out along the way. As Skyward Sword showed us, even a silent protagonist can show affection.
4. The Caster seems REALLY cool, but is it the only way we'll be able to use spells from now on? It'd be cool if offensive spells like the Fire or Ice spell could be fired as projectiles, but it doesn't seem like we'd be able to use the Force or TRILOTH spell through it. It'd be cool to see a big variety of spells that function with the Caster in different ways, and some that don't even involve the Caster all together.
5. If there was anywhere I loved going in Oceanhorn just for fun, it would be the Withered Lands. Parts of the desert were filled with all sorts of different monsters making it so fun just to circle around defeating all sorts of enemies with all the cool gear and spells we got. It was also great for leveling up! I'd like to see at least one spot in the game that we can always return to and explore around just for bashing in all sorts of monsters with our sweet new Caster! ^-^
Well I suppose I should shut up for now. I am really looking forward to this game, I'm sure you guys have a lot of cool ideas yourself! Good luck!
Sir, you will be pleased! :)
DeleteOh! Also if there's another item like the Ancient Flute (either by being a musical instrument or just an item some significant to story rather than gameplay) I'd be nice if it had a little more use in the game still. Do you think you'll even bother adding in a bow to this game? Bows are cool and all, but it seems like the Caster already fires projectiles.
DeleteAlright, enough! He answered all of your questions.
DeleteNow give some other people a fair chance to talk!
YEEEAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love this thing! It looks cool as hell!
ReplyDeletePlease don't make this iOS-exclusive for three years like with the original Oceanhorn. I hope this is multi-platform on release. At the very least, release it for PC/Steam alongside iOS.
ReplyDeleteActually, iOS gives it the most chance for all of their hard work
Deleteto make money. All those other platforms are rife with piracy.
Three years you waited? You're lucky you got it at all ....
Previous. Banana.
DeleteI have been loving Oceanhorn on PC/Steam - I can't wait to support your team by purchasing Oceanhorn 2 when you release it on Steam as well! Will you be doing any merchandising for the game? I would love to support your team for the beautiful work you're creating! :D
ReplyDeleteWhat platforms will this come out on? Any chance for an Apple TV release? I loved the first one so much, its actually in my top 10 favorite games of all time!
ReplyDeletePLEASE PLEASE dont release Oceanhorn 2 ONLY for XBOX and Playstation! Iam looking forward to play it on PC or IOS :)
ReplyDeleteHope you can answer me this question! Thank you
We are not going to confirm any platforms at this point, but the game is definitely coming to iOS. :)
DeleteMade my day :) Thank you! I will definitely play it :P
DeleteShould look into VR for the next game! Also ps4 support please!
ReplyDeleteWhen will this game be available on iPhone/iPad please??
ReplyDeleteTomorrow
DeleteI am one of the top speedrunner of Oceanhorn 1, and I am very excited to see what you guys will do with it's sequel. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteWhat's your record?
DeleteI beat the game in a little over 13 hours.
DeleteFinally ❤️❤️❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteI cannot WAIT to play this on AppleTV ....
ReplyDeleteHowever, you said in the upcoming months you would
have more to share. Well, it's been THREE months now.
What have you got for us, Cornfox ...?
It'll probably be a few more till they are ready to give us any big info and updates.
DeletePS Vita too! It's not like it can't handle it, the game looks sick but it's not skyrim
ReplyDeleteAlso, when is oceanhorn 1 coming to Vita? I never played it my iPhone and since I heard its coming I'd rather wait until I can play it with physical controls. Idk why but your games remind me of a cross between Zelda, Jak and Daxter and Animal Crossing
DeleteCan you please consider making an android version of the game? I love your game so much and i'll be sad if you only make it for iOS..
ReplyDeleteCan I please get a beta test of the game
ReplyDeleteI just finished the first one on the android version. I can't wait till the next one comes out!!
ReplyDeleteIs there a rough date the game will be released?
ReplyDeleteNeed for Nvidia Shield Tv!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSaludos desde México, ya no aguanto mas la espera de este juego a si que ya no nos hagan sufrir mas :'(
ReplyDeleteLoved playing Oceanhorn so much that it was what got me into playing zelda games, so I'm more interested in playing this than Breath of the Wild. Wishing you guys luck moving forward and giving all my support
ReplyDeleteDo you know when the new ones out
Deleteplease release in pc/steam
ReplyDeleteI just finished this game on my ps Vita and I'm so glad it came out on this console because I wanted to get it on my phone but I did not have enough memory and I now use my vita as my sole game device. I really hope oceanhorn 2 comes out on the vita! I love this first game and seriously can not find anything else like it and no other game I have in my library beats this. Thank you for such a great game!
ReplyDeleteYou are gonna release it for Playstation 4, right? Can't wait. Make it bigger open world than zelda and let there be more physics and stuff in the game(Like Zelda breath of the wild)
ReplyDeleteThey should make the animation more fluid and add dash mode.
ReplyDeletePlease make it available for mobile, Android and iOs
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for the new release!! I don't play many console games so I'm hopin that I'll get to play on mobile or pc.
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! I really liked the first game and I am so happy you decided to release if for Nintendo Switch. Please release this for Switch as well!
ReplyDeleteWould love to see this on the Nintendo Switch
ReplyDeleteI loved playing the first one I'd love to know when the second one will be out
